Diamond Dressing Roller – CV Joints

Profile dressing when grinding CV joint components, with customer-specific diamond dressing rollers.

Diamantabrichtrolle – CV-Gelenke

When grinding components for CV joints, dimensional accuracy, profile accuracy, and process stability are the central concerns. The hardened raceways of the inner ring, outer ring, and cage require a precisely controlled grinding process with a reproducible grinding wheel profile geometry.

Diamond-tipped dressing rollers are used to profile the grinding wheels. They transfer the defined contour onto the grinding wheel and ensure consistent geometry over long production cycles. The dressing rollers are engineered specifically to the customer's profile geometry.

Product program

  • Product types: diamond dressing rollers for profile dressing of grinding wheels for CV joint components
  • Versions: form rollers and profile rollers for continuous or intermittent dressing
  • Diamond setting: natural or synthetic diamonds, precisely positioned in the profile
  • Dimensions: roller diameter and profile width customer-specific, based on grinding wheel and machine
  • Design: profile geometry matched to the inner ring, outer ring, or cage of CV joints

Process and benefits

  • High profile accuracy – precise transfer of the profile geometry to the grinding wheel
  • High tool life of the diamond setting – long service life and fewer tool changes
  • Stable dressing behavior – consistent grinding wheel geometry and reproducible component quality

Application example

R/D-RR | EHWA diamond dressing roller (electroplated, negative) – profile dressing of grinding wheels for grinding CV joint inner rings in series production.

Process parameters, CV joint dressing
MaterialCase-hardened steel (e.g. 16MnCr5), hardness approx. 58–62 HRC
ComponentInner ring of a ball-type CV joint with ground raceways
WorkpieceCV joint inner ring Ø approx. 60 – 90 mm
Grinding wheelProfile wheel (aluminum oxide or CBN), Ø 350 – 450 mm
Dressing roller diameterapprox. 120 – 200 mm
Dressing speed20 – 40 m/s peripheral speed
Dressing infeed0.002 – 0.01 mm per pass
